The Nerja History Group was started in 2002 by Dr Dorothy Price, a former nun, who moved to Spain, to retire. Pursuing her interest in history, she decided to give a few talks ‘From Phoenicians to the Euro’ in Nerja. About 60 people turned up and the Nerja History Group was born.
In those days, local trips would be made by car-sharing and then the suggestion came up about hiring a coach…..and here we are today.
We promote ourselves as “enthusiastic amateurs”, all interested to know more about the wonderful Country in which we live. Our Speakers volunteer to give a Talk and many are retirees who now have the time to indulge their research and passion for an aspect of Spanish history. Some of our Speakers are regular contributors. The meetings run between the months of October – April, usually on the first Friday of the month.
Meetings are held in the Nerja Museum, Plaza España, Nerja ( above the underground car park ) at 11.00 am and there is a 6 € donation requested to cover costs. The week after the meeting, we usually have a day trip to a place of interest and we now have an annual multi-day trip, further afield in Spain, costs announced at the meetings.
The meetings are open to all and are conducted in the English language.
