Our next meeting :
NHG (Nerja History Group) For anyone interested in Spanish History
Next meeting Friday 10th January 2025
The British Influence in Mining in Andalucia from the 18th – 20th century by Nick Nutter.
This will tell the story of the people, the successes and failures plus the foundation of some British expat communities that rose in the mining areas.
*Some of you came with me to visit the Rio Tinto Mines a few years ago and we visited the town created called Bellavista Barrio (English neighbourhood), which had its own social club, tennis courts and church.
This will be a very interesting presentation I’m sure. Nick gave us a fascinating talk last season about the “plastic greenhouses” blotting the landscape in Almeria.
Nick and his partner Julie, came to Spain in 1999 and soon became immersed in its history. They started a magazine which they ran for 8 years and now, years later, Nick is still writing. He will have a book available very soon.
Our meetings are held at the Cultural Centre, C/Granada, Nerja. Meetings start at 11.00 am with access from 10.30 am. A contribution of 7 euros per person will be appreciated please, to help with costs. Presentations are given in English.
There will be details about our trip the following week.
