The Battle of Trafalgar

Our meeting on Friday 7th February was certainly different  !  Our Guest Speaker, Canadian former Naval Officer, Ross Lambert, gave us a most entertaining way of delivering his Talk about the Spanish Navy at the Battle of Trafalgar. He used members of the audience as “Captains” of the English Navy and he gave his briefing as Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, Nelson’s righthand man. We learnt about the types of ships used by both English and Spanish Navy’s, how the Spanish vessels were superb examples, how many guns each had and the time it took to fire and re-load guns – which was a significant factor in the English Navy’s success. It was an informative as well as enjoyable morning.
