On Friday 13th October, a few of enjoyed a trip to Alhama de Granada. After our breakfast stop we continued on through lovely countryside, up through Zafarraya and the wonderful limestone rock formations.
We arrived in Alhama de Granada and drove up to the historic centre to meet our Guide Paca. We first went to the walkway at the rear of the church, to see the incredible views of the valley and gorge. There is a way to walk down for the fitter, however, we satisfied ourselves to enjoy the views from our safe look-out ! We then entered the church and were able to wander behind the altar, which has wonderful decoration. The decoration in the dome above the altar itself is interesting, with dark colours. Our visit continued through charming, narrow streets to our next stop, the former prison where we watched a video and then on to the former hospital. Our guide Paca gave a commentary during the visit and can certainly tell a good story ! We then boarded our bus and travelled the short distance to restaurant “The Crazy Duck”, where we enjoyed a 3 course lunch and then travelled back to Nerja.
