Trip to Cueva del Tesoro and Benagalbon – Jan 2020

On Friday 17th January, nearly 50 of us went to the Cueva del Tesoro, so called because legend has it that treasure was buried there by Tashfin ibn Ali, the Almoravid emperor in the 12th C. The cave is part of a set of caves which is over 2.5 km long.
Our guide Lola, was very informative and explained about the discovery of a hall 1951, where several remains from the Neolithic and Arab times were found. It is quite different from the Nerja caves. It is the only cave in Europe of marine geological origin that can be visited.
After the visit, we went for a cup of coffee nearby and then went to Benagalbon by bus for a guided visit with Lola.

Benagalbon is a pretty white village with lovely plants, a small church and a Museum which is compiled of artefacts and memorabilia donated by local villagers. (what a very good idea, we could all donate the “stuff” we’ve all collected over the years to a museum in Nerja, hahahha !).
We then had free time for lunch, boarded the bus and made our way back to Nerja – the comments indicate that everyone enjoyed themselves.
