On Friday 8th April, we had a wonderful but long day, in the company of Elena Sanchez and the Roman remains in Torreparadones near Baena.
We had an early start from Nerja on a glorious morning and, having collected our travellers, we stopped for breakfast on the outskirts of Antequera. Suitably refreshed, we continued through wonderful countryside to our destination. Following on from her Talk the previous week, Elena explained to us, how a Roman City was designed and created.
We saw some re-construction, some excavation works and some original remains nearby and in the Roman Forum. The location of the site is absolutely wonderful, with stunning views for miles. We then boarded the bus again for a visit to the Archaeology Museum in Baena, where we saw some original remains and some copies. Once again onto the bus, for a journey to a former Railway station, now a restaurant, on the edge of the Sierra Subbetica and located on one of the many vias verdes, which are routes for walkers and cyclists. After a companionable time over lunch, at which Elena joined us, we headed back to Nerja, tired but uplifted having shared an enjoyable day !
