Lobres and Salobreña — October 11 th 2024

Our first trip of the season took place on Friday October 11th.
32 of us went to the Oil Museum on the way to Motril where we had a tasting of different local oil and cheese.  There were many local products to buy. We then moved on to the family run Bodega Mondero (not to be confused with the Rum factory at Motril), where we had an explanation of the process of making their award winning sugar based products of rum, brandy and whisky plus a tasting, of course.  We saw sugar cane being cut and also tasted a dark cane sugar.  From there we had a short guided visit to the little known area of Lobres and then on to Salobreña for lunch on the beach, where we had wonderful paella de marisco. I had been hoping to visit the Castle at Salobreña  which is wonderful but difficult to access with a group.
A good day was enjoyed !
